I'd wait for amg tech to chime in but the hardtop on these scares me. And so does the suspension but they probably make coilovers to fix that issue. Just get a e55 and do coilovers once the suspension starts leaking, you get all the noise and power with twice the room.

I don’t need or want the room. I want a this weird monstrosity of a coup convertible thingy.

Get an SLK55. Conventional suspension, but still has that magical folding top.
I still want one ever since I drove one.

But can I fit? They seem small and such. Also same amount of power?

Less, around 355 horse. (no supercharger)
I’m a small person so I fit just fine, although it has plenty of seat travel.

NEED ALL POWER. I’m 6’4”

just strap a super charger to it anyways. same engine more or less I trhink

Don’t wanna spend that extra cash when I can get it with it already on it
![]() 12/09/2015 at 22:11 |

it would also have an extra 1000lbs and a shit ton of miles.
or just find a 63/65 and get it over with.

But the V8 sounds amazing

I liked these until I drove one. The thing’s a goddamn boat. I know, I know, it’s a GT, not a sports car. But cars like the same-vintage XKs and the old 6ers don’t feel near as sloppy.

Can I predict how this is going to go: You will buy a car like this in the assumption that it won’t be as bad reliability wise as you expected. It will be much worse than that, and will cost an arm and a leg. I really encourage you not to do that.

It's the suspension system on the SL. Horribly expensive to repair and it will need repaired

Ah I see, hm, what else of this kind of car would you recommend? Cause I wanna get out of my Mustang and into something faster and a little sleeker I’m really open to anything that’s not a GM product unless it’s a white C6 or dark blue C6 Vette.

As far as the body style goes, not my favorite, but it’s not a mess.
The motor? Good enough. It’s a very good car, as evident by the miles. Consider it broken in, not about to break. Few SL owners abuse their cars. I’d take a higher mileage car than a lower mileage car every day of the week.
If I were shopping for a V8 benz of that general era though, it would be an SLK55 AMG or McLaren SLR instead. Otherwise, V12 or bust. This isn’t an economy car after all.
My sole major complaint is the top folds into the trunk, so it eats up a good portion of your space, unlike the R129s that have a separate compartment for the top.

I know you just said no GM but people usually forget about the Cadillac XLR-V. If you are serious about no GM I would get a Scat pack Challenger. No idea what your price range is but those are two good options in the 30s

I’m looking at something in the low 30s like I’ve been finding BOSS 302’s in the range. But I’m also open to Porsche and such

Go Boss or go home

Cause they will all be in the range in a few months possibly.

I’ve got 112k on my R129 SL600, these cars were built to last, it’s a shame so few people drive them as such.
